The Mats Sundin saga now appears ready to drag well into August. Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry, told various media outlets that Aug. 1 was now "a soft deadline" for the Toronto captain to make a call on playing with the Leafs, another team or retiring. Barry had earlier hoped that the date would produce an answer from Sundin, who is keeping a low profile in Sweden. But Barry also created a buzz by saying six teams were in the running for his clients' service, believed to include Toronto, Vancouver, New York and Montreal. As far as Leafs' general manager Cliff Fletcher is concerned, he's ready for life without the franchise scoring leader.
