The Lightning gave Jeff Vinik plenty to cheer about Saturday when the 50-year-old attended his first home game as official owner of the team, a 6-2 victory against Atlanta. Vinik became the fifth owner in franchise history when the deal to purchase the team from Oren Koules and Len Barrie was approved by the NHL Board of Governors on March 3. Vinik was introduced to the fans two days later during a news conference attended by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, who hopes to alleviate any fan concerns after two years of upheaval and controversy under Koules/Barrie. "A lot has been written about the economic health and ... the alleged fragility of this franchise," Bettman said. "You need not write those words anymore.
