The Montreal Canadiens got offense from throughout their lineup to improve their playoff prospects and deal a blow to the Tampa Bay Lightning's postseason hopes. Scott Gomez had a goal and two assists, and Mathieu Darche scored twice to lead Montreal to a 5-3 win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday night. Jaroslav Halak made 28 saves for the Canadiens, who gave coach Jacques Martin his 550th career win...

The Lightning gave Jeff Vinik plenty to cheer about Saturday when the 50-year-old attended his first home game as official owner of the team, a 6-2 victory against Atlanta.

Vinik became the fifth owner in franchise history when the deal to purchase the team from Oren Koules and Len Barrie was approved by the NHL Board of Governors on March 3. Vinik was introduced to the fans two days later during a news conference attended by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, who hopes to alleviate any fan concerns after two years of upheaval and controversy under Koules/Barrie.

"A lot has been written about the economic health and ... the alleged fragility of this franchise," Bettman said. "You need not write those words anymore.

Steven Stamkos got high praise from an NHL great. Stamkos extended his franchise-record points streak to 16 games, and Antero Niittymaki remained perfect against Atlanta, helping the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Thrashers 6-2 on Saturday night. Tampa Bay coach Rick Tocchet said former teammate and Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux used "Wow1" after the game to describe the 20-year-old Stamkos.
