| Penguins GM backs Sid the Kid on Letterman snub (AP) |
Hey, go easy on Sidney Crosby. At least that's the message from Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ray Shero. Crosby recently passed on an invitation to appear on the "The Late Show with David Letterman" and has been taking some criticism for the snub. The NHL superstar led Canada to the Olympic gold medal with an overtime goal against the United States.

| Penguins Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) |
Winger Matt Cooke said he did not intend to hit the head of Boston center Marc Savard late in the Penguins' win over the Bruins on Sunday at Mellon Arena. However, Cooke caught Savard on the right side of the head with his left arm. Savard lost consciousness temporarily and remained in Pittsburgh on Sunday with a team employee because of a concussion. Cooke is a repeat offender for head blows because of his hit on New York Rangers forward Artem Anisimov on Nov. 29. He was suspended two games for that blow. He said he didn't mean to catch Savard as he did. "We turned the puck over, they came back 3-on-3, I was the first checker back. He got the puck and I just finished my check," Cooke said.

The Boston Bruins left Pittsburgh with a loss and a whole lot of anger after losing one of their best players to what they felt was a cheap-shot hit. Evgeni Malkin scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period after former linemate Pascal Dupuis tied it, and the Pittsburgh Penguins remained unbeaten since the Olympic break by beating the Bruins 2-1 on Sunday. |
