| Rangers Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) |
|
Do you think John Tortorella is still a tad perturbed—or fed up, even?—that star sniper Marian Gaborik attempted to play through an injury during the Olympics? The Rangers' leading scorer returned Saturday after missing four games bridging the Olympic break, with the last two games missed because of a groin injury Gaborik suffered while playing for semifinalist Slovakia in Vancouver. The Rangers, who'd scored 13 goals in their previous three games without the 35-goal first-line winger, were blanked 2-0 that night by Caps goalie Jose Theodore, and Tortorella called out Gaborik and the Rangers' other top players before Sunday's 2-1 overtime loss to Buffalo dropped them three points behind No.

Even when Alex Ovechkin is slumping, the Washington Capitals are quite capable of succeeding. Take, for example, NHL-leading Washington's 2-0 victory over the New York Rangers on Saturday night, which stretched the Capitals' club-record home winning streak to 13 games. There was goalie Jose Theodore, making a reflex save to cover up a bad mistake by a teammate. |

So much for another big hockey boost. The NHL trade deadline came and went with a thud instead of a bang. Not that anyone expected Wednesday's deadline to come anywhere close to the excitement of Canada's Olympic gold medal win over the United States three days earlier, but it didn't even generate the buzz of previous trading days that created the wow factor.
