| Devils Team Report (Yahoo! Sports) |
|
Coach Jacques Lemaire admitted before Wednesday night's game that he had finally started peeking at the standings, something he vowed not to do through the first half of the season when the Devils were playing so well. And, despite a skid in which the Devils won just six times in the previous 20 games, what Lemaire sees in those standings isn't all that bad. The win over the Rangers on Wednesday night moved the Devils into sole possession of fourth place, the final home-ice spot, in the Eastern Conference, and New Jersey has two games in hand on Ottawa. Third place is not reachable because that has to go to a division winner, but second? The Devils are very much in the hunt to re-pass Pittsburgh and lead the Atlantic, which would likely carry a No.
