Defenseman Ladislav Smid is preparing himself for season-ending neck surgery later this month in Los Angeles. He has a bulging disk that's been causing soreness in his neck and numbness in his hands. It's been getting worse as the season has progressed, so they're going in to repair the problem. "Kind of sucks, needing surgery," he said. "I'm probably going to be out three or four months. It's going to be hard getting back in shape, but hopefully I'm going to be ready for next camp." He was hoping he could play though it and the symptoms would subside, as they've done before, but it didn't happen. "My neck was always an issue, but it wasn't that big of an issue," he said.
