The Calgary Flames played as though they were hungrier than the Detroit Red Wings, who are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in years. Jarome Iginla and Rene Bourque scored 1:31 apart in the third to put Calgary ahead in a 4-2 win over Detroit on Tuesday night. Flames Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

An eighth-place showdown a little more than a week into March doesn't sound like a big deal.

It will be to the Flames, however. Their clash with the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday isn't a make-it-or-break-it affair, but it does have more than two points up for grabs.

A win, even in extra time, would put the Flames in the Western Conference's elite eight, and that instills a certain amount of confidence in a team that is starting to gain some after struggling for so long—both to win and to score goals.

Calgary goes into the game feeling good about winning back-to-back games. Doing it with five goals in each outing gives the Flames even more confidence.

"The last couple of games have been really good for the team, and as a line we've been getting more...

Despite being the career leader in goals against Minnesota Wild, Jarome Iginla hadn't scored one in 10 games. He certainly broke out of his slump in a big way. Iginla recorded his 10th career hat trick -- his third against Minnesota -- and Vesa Toskala made 27 saves in his first start since being traded to Calgary as the Flames beat the Wild 5-2 on Sunday.
